Ms. Abell’s ninth and tenth grade Title I students at Cristo Rey High wrote diamante poems. The class had been discussing using synonyms for overused, boring words. So Ms. Abell asked the students to write a diamante (diamond shaped) poem describing someone or thing with more descriptive words.
Each line of a diamante poem uses specific types of words such as adjectives or words that ending in -ing or -ly. Diamante poems do not have to rhyme.
