Ms. Cashman’s second grade students in Title I at St. Benedict Catholic School are learning about words that have multiple meanings. The class revisited the book Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parrish.

After reading it, Ms. Cashman and the students had a lively discussion about how Amelia Bedelia interpreted the directions.

Then students came up with a list of multiple meanings words. The words they identified include the following:

  • ball,
  • bark,
  • bat,
  • bowl,
  • change,
  • check,
  • deck,
  • duck
  • fly,
  • pet,
  • ring,
  • roll,
  • watch and
  • wave.

Next each student picked a word and wrote two different sentences using their word. Finally, the students illustrated their sentences.
