Our Lady of Mount Carmel kindergarten students in Ms. Parker’s Title I class are learning how slowly stretching words can help them read and write tricky words.
Kindergarten students spent a few weeks practicing phonemic awareness including
- tapping out words and
- stretching out words
to help them read and write unfamiliar or tricky words. Students practiced stretching out words as they read books!
The kindergarten students practiced saying words slowly to help them spell tricky words as they wrote stories about the springtime.

Finally, kindergarten children also loved practicing listening for the missing vowel in cvc words and then writing the missing vowel with shaving cream.
