Park Place students in Ms. Scharich’s Title I math didn’t want to miss out on all the fun of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday. So throughout the week they celebrated with a large range of Seuss math activities that highlighted his beloved books.
Our Seuss Math Activities
2nd through 6th grade kicked off the week solving story problems, such as “Horton had 5 red bowls with 6 blue fish in each bowl. How many fish did Horton have?”
We then laughed along with Green Eggs and Ham and used spatulas to work on long division problems and to count coins.
We also used our foot to stomp out equivalent fractions and review place values.
Students used rulers to measure Seuss math measurements for The Cat in the Hat.
We then ended our week with fun games like Ding 1 and Ding 2 focusing on even and odd numbers. We also added and subtracted until we got 10 apples on top. We had a wonderful week and loved that we could celebrate Dr. Seuss even in math.
The Cat in the Hat even came to visit Ms. Scharich’s Title I math students!
