Title I Family Literacy Night

Thursday, April 2
6:45-8:15 p.m.

at St. Michael School

7401 St. Michaels Lane,
Annandale, Virginia 22003

The April 2, 2009, Title I Family Literacy Night was another successful DAC event.  We had a record attendance of 232 parents and children!

Families enjoyed pizza and cookies, a children's book giveaway and book bag decorating.   Then Title I teachers presented a program entitled "Encouraging Your Growing Reader."   Teachers role played

  • how to choose appropriate books for your child to read,
  • what to do when your child encounters a hard word and
  • how to share the reading with your child.

After seeing each strategy modeled, parents and children practiced it together.

Between strategies Area Supervisor and "Game Guru" Joanna Bopp lead interactive games that were enjoyed by parents and children alike.
