Tidewater VA DAC December 5, 2012
Family Night
with the Children's Theatre
of Hampton Roads

Tidewater Virginia DAC Meeting
December 5, 2012

On December 5, 2012, the Tidewater Area sponsored Family Night with the Children's Theatre of Hampton Roads at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library in Virginia Beach.

The Children's Theatre of Hampton Roads presented 4Ever Words: A Poetry Play in the auditorium.

Jack-In-The-Box and Mother Goose explained to the young girl the importance of words and thoughts through the magic of poetry.

After the performance, the Title I teachers, grouped by grade level, presented games and activities concerning fluency. The parents and children were able to play the games and take them home.

The PreK-K group demonstrated Reader's Theatre using big and little books.

The K- 1 group after giving an overview of fluency, explained Concept of Word, how to use nursery rhymes and poems, and shared word lists and activities.

Grade 2-3 group focused on the signals in reading, gave a list of phrases to increase fluency, and developed a baseball game for reinforcement.

Grade 4-5 showcased emotions, expression, and punctuation giving a Happy Face Game.

Numerous Parent Resource books and pamphlets were available for parents to take.
According to the Evaluations, all found the workshop useful and most rated the overall evening EXCELLENT! One parent commented that she didn't know reading could be so much fun!
